Barbara's Newsletter
Villager Barbara Kelley spent many years buying skin-care creams trying to find products that did not irritate her skin, and she always noticed a lack of product for baby boomers and older seniors.
She and a friend decided to take matters into their own hands and sought a laboratory that would listen to their requests. Now Kelley has her own skin-care label: Reflections Skin Care formerly Barbara's Skin Care Solutions.
"I never could find a skin-care product that I didn't get a reaction from" she said. "And with these, I have never had a reaction because they are made from all natural herbs rather than allot of chemicals."
Kelley moved to the Village of Liberty Park one year ago from Marco Island south of Naples and has spent more than 50 years as a hairdresser. Yet the importance of skin-care has always fascinated her. She has her own skin-care line since 1986, and Kelley believes many of her products also would appeal to other Villagers.
She has a license from The Villages to hold mobile in-home parties to showcase her products.
Kelley believes home parties are a great way for residents to see and feel the products.
" Many people are not educated on how to take care of your skin (in later years), like concentrating on your neck and hands," she said. " It's important for people to know how to cleanse. You don't just do your face. Your neck is very, very important too. And being in Florida, you just have to keep your skin moist, keeping it well moisturized."
She also shows a rosewater mineral toner and a seawater hydrating mist.
"The mist is great for when your out on the golf course or exercising. It replaces the moisture and just refreshes your skin.
She is proud of her advanced-protection sunscreen lotions, including one that features transparent zinc oxide.
"If people are in the sun allot and they damage their skin, doctors recommend that they apply zinc oxide and it often stays white on their skin. You'll often see people walking around with white noses. This is transparent zinc oxide," she said of the products that also features photosomes to protect skin from UVA/UVB exposure.
Kelley is looking forward to sharing her skin-care products with her Villages neighbors. Those interested in learning more can call her at 205-7897.
Kelley also enjoys sharing her own unique story of how she came to The Villages after living on Marco Island for 16 years. She and her husband of 46 years, Perry, often had friends who came to visit them from the North and several mentioned The Villages.
"A year ago January, Perry's sister came down from Ontario to Marco and she wanted to move and couldn't find anything she could afford" Barbara recalled. So we were sitting around one night drinking wine, and I said, " What about the Villages?"
Perry suggested that Barbara and his sister, Eileen take a weekend road trip to see The Villages for themselves.
The two women were amazed as they arrived in town, seeing the beauty of the community, the shops, restaurants and experiencing the atmosphere.
"We drove in Spanish Springs, and the golf carts were all there, and we just giggled and laughed." Kelley said. That was it for us.
The more they explored, The more the women felt The Villages was the place to live. "We were all excited about it," said Kelley, who couldn't wait to go home and tell her husband all about it. "I had the idea that we were going to be making a change at that point in time. I just came here so Eileen could see it, but making the move really had been fabulous."
The music and singing you hear on the page is my sister singing original songs that she wrote the lyrics to. I have her tapes to sell for 8.00 a piece.
Fondly Barb.
